3 Tomatoes and a Mozzarella
Pizza and Pasta Restaurant - Scottsdale, Peoria, Las Vegas
Once you’ve had gourmet pizza, it’s almost
impossible to go back to Papa John’s…and once you’ve had the incredible
pizzas at 3 Tomatoes and a Mozzarella, you’ll be spoiled for any other
kind ever again.
3 Tomatoes and a Mozzarella is a small, intimate restaurant located at
Pinnacle Peak and Miller. The Tuscan villa decorated room is filled with
of copper-topped tables (their menu covers are copper as well),
candlelight, and Italian music. The glass-fronted kitchen allows you to
see the action without the sounds interrupting your dining experience.
There also is wonderful patio seating – with a view of the Valley of the
Sun that’s to die for!
We started our meal with three salads – a yummy spinach, arugula mix with
caramelized onions and toasted walnuts; a fresh caprese salad of tomatoes,
fresh mozzarella and pistachios (nice touch); and an absolutely incredible
Caesar. We’ve had a lot of Caesar salads and this one knocked our socks
off!
But, what we came here for was the pizza. The owners missed their hometown
pizza so much (they’re from Connecticut), that they purchased the crust
recipe from their favorite pizza place and brought the chef out to Phoenix
to show them the ropes. One bite of this flavorful, perfect crust and
you’ll agree that it was money well spent. Keeping their focus on quality,
they also make their own pizza and pasta sauces daily.
The Neapolitan pizza has that true pizza flavor – thin crust, crushed
tomatoes, and a blend of imported cheeses. We topped ours off with some
Italian sausage. Delightful! We also had one of their Margherita pizzas
that are the epitome of fresh – fresh sauce, fresh basil and a topping of
cheese. We topped ours with some fresh spinach for even more flavor.
Other great pizza choices include the Quattro Formaggi with Parmesan,
fontina, Gorgonzola and asiago cheeses; prosciutto, roasted garlic and
truffle oil. The description says it all. There are also pizza specials
like the fig, prosciutto and Gorgonzola. Completely decadent!
But, don’t leave 3 Tomatoes without trying their homemade pasta, served
daily after 4 p.m. It comes with your choice of Pomodoro, Bolognese,
Alfredo or Rose sauce. We opted for the Alfredo and its super creamy, rich
sauce caused us to eat the leftovers as a midnight snack.
Desserts include gelatos, spumoni and house-made cannolis and tiramisu.
There is a good beer and wine selection. The staff is cordial and helpful,
and the owners make you feel right at home.
good to know: families are welcome; wine dinners held once a month
